“Get carried away!” This is the motto of the Adarsh Alphons Project, a Harlem-based visual arts program for New York City’s youth. The Project provides budding young artists and lovers of art with full-scholarship art classes, professional teachers from around the world, student exhibitions, and showcases in public art projects.
The student body, who just held a significant exhibition at Art Connects Gallery in SoHo, New York City is made up of young visionaries like ten-year old Paula, pictured above at the opening reception last October. Or like Nicholas. If you can imagine the passion of Michelangelo in the body of an 11 year old, you can understand Nicholas’ drive. Fascinated by comics, in five weeks he weaved a captivating, enormous 6-part comic strip, often borrowing art materials from the Project’s studio to work on his drawings at home. The underlying narrative of his work: the struggle between good and evil; unity and segregation.
of note applauds the notable work of the Adarsh Alphons Project. We like how they are getting carried away!
Adarsh Alphons Projects will present the second installment of art work created by 25 emerging young student artists in their Harlem space through their partnership with the Fresh Air Fund. Details: Monday, May 9th, 6:30-8:30pm, 537B W.23rd Street, New York, NY 10011. For more information, visit www.adarshalphonsprojects.org.
