The Laundromat Project

December 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Art + Laundry. The idea to transform neighborhood laundromats into enriching community spaces is the brainchild of Rise Wilson and the Brooklyn-based arts non-profit The Laundromat Project.

The concept is simple: bring art programs to where the neighbors already are: the local laundromat. For its commitment to New York City neighborhoods in Harlem, Jackson Heights, and Fort Greene, The Laundromat Project’s work is notable. Understanding that creativity is a central component of vibrant neighborhoods and thriving economies, the Project raises the quality of life for people whose incomes make enjoying arts and cultural opportunities challenging.
